An initial osteopathic session typically commences with a discussion about the details of the patient’s medical history, and the reason for the consultation.
Physical assessment will then further help to determine the precise cause of the patient’s pain or dysfunction, and to enable an optimal treatment plan.
Traditional osteopathic treatment is accomplished through manual techniques that focus on, for example, the muscles, ligaments, fasciae, joints, viscera, glands, arteries, veins, the nervous system and/or the cranium.
The osteopath can address any postural issues, and teach remediation exercises. The therapist can also advise on strategies for healthy living, as well as teaching pertinent and highly effective stretches. The latter are tailored for each individual, in order to maximize a treatment’s benefit, and to help avoid a relapse of the initial health concern(s).
